If you are like me you will have a few of these belly baskets around your home.  I use them for so many things, from holding a fiddle leaf fig to storing bits and pieces and making my home look tidy.  Today I have a very quick and easy DIY project to make your belly basket look pretty.

Pom pom basket

What You Will Need

  • Ikea Belly Basket
  • Cotton and thread
  • Pom pom trim
  • Glue (optional)
  • Scissors
  • Pegs

I already had the pink pom pom trim that I had bought from Spotlight and pale pink thread to match.  Measure how much trim you will need to go around your basket and cut to size.

Pin the pom pom trim in place around the basket or alternatively hold in place with a simple clothes peg while you sew or glue it in place.

If you choose to use glue to hold your trim, the pegs are great for holding it firmly in place until it is dry.

There are so many pretty trims and ribbons to use on your basket.  I just kept mine simple and went with one row of pom poms.

You can also paint the bottom of your basket too.  I have another Home Republic basket  above from Adairs with a pretty soft pink painted bottom.

Have some fun with your Ikea belly basket hack.  The perfect thing about these baskets is that they can fold down and are so easy to store.  You can see why I have a few.

What do you use your belly basket for?
