Window seats add charm and character to a home.  I have two window seats at the front of my home.  One is in the guest bedroom and the other one is in my home office.  Today I have some inspiration and ideas to consider when styling your window seat.

Window Coverings

The shape of your window will determine the best window covering options for you to use.  My window seats have three windows, One large one at the front and two smaller ones on the side.  As these windows are at the front of my home I have installed the same window treatment in both rooms.

For a softer look, a roman blind would also work really well.  But next time I would love to try some white shutters too.

My window seat has a very neutral look and I add colour and pattern with my cushions and a floor rug in my office.

Comfort

Bring comfort to your bench seat with a custom made bench cushion and add a decorator touch with a piping trim.  Add matching cushions or mix and match your patterns and fabrics.

Use a quality foam insert so your bench cushion will keeps its shape and a durable hard wearing fabric.  Keep in mind your fabric may be in direct sunlight and will need to withstand varying temperatures.

Storage

A window seat will not only look beautiful and add charm and character to a home but is fabulous for extra storage in your home.

I have access to my window seat with a flip up style cover for storage under the cushions.  You can also build drawers at the front or have an open bench seat underneath or install some wicker baskets.  If you are installing drawers under your seating check the measurements to make sure there is enough room when the under bench drawers are open.

Cushions

Finish your window seat with some beautiful cushions with feather inserts.  Choose your fabrics and have them custom made for your window seat or dedicate a day to shopping for some new cushions for your new  reading spot.

Window seats create a cosy nook in your home and a place for some beautiful cushions.  Which window seat is your favourite?
