I love layering my living space by adding a warm and textured rug to my room.  Layering your surfaces will not only keep your feet warm but also keep the heat in and create a cosy atmosphere.

Window furnishings

Install a blind or curtain on your window to keep the warm air in and the cool air out.  I find I’m covering up my windows much earlier to keep the warmth in.  Check for any drafts around your windows and re-seal them if necessary.  Putting a seal around your window is a simple way to reduce drafts and save on your heating and cooling expenses.  They are available at any hardware store.

If you have a fire place, arrange your furniture facing towards your fireplace to create a cosy space.  Add extra cushions and throws for warmth and comfort.  If you don’t have a fire place you can arrange a grouping of candles on a tray together.  I love this idea using a flameless pillar candle.

Brighten your winter with bright coloured throws or simply keep to your colour scheme and use knitted and textured throw rugs and cushions to keep your family warm and snug.
