Mondocherry is a beautiful concept store located in Malvern, an inner suburb of Melbourne. This store was opened by sisters Clare and Joy to showcase their original designs and also to feature local and international designers and artisans in their store.
The “Birds of a Feather” collection above is all hand cut and painted by Clare and Joy. Clare lives in Melbourne and Joy in Singapore. For Clare and Joy cutting by hand is an important part of their creative journey.
They have a range of fabric designs, currently available in the form of cushions and lampshades, all of which have started their life as one of their sketches or paintings. They are then brought to life at the boutique printing company Frankie and Swiss. Each design is a limited edition run, and colours and designs change all the time to complement their current artwork collection.
Artwork by Mondocherry
Inspired by the colours and textures of nature, particularly bird life, flowers and landscapes, every feather, petal and leaf is finely cut and painted by hand.
The paper is brushed with watercolour both before and after cutting, and touches of acrylic paint and metallic details are added to achieve this end result of beautiful artwork.
The artwork above was inspired by the beautiful flowers in Clare and Joy’s Grandma’s English garden, this artwork titled ‘Banbury Flora’, is part of their botanical collection.
Each flower petal and leaf is individually hand cut from quality watercolour paper and carefully painted, shaped and layered to create an original and one of a kind artwork.
