Flower Food Recipe to make your Flowers last longer
There’s something so lovely about bringing fresh flowers into the home. Whether they’re gathered from the garden, picked up at the market, or a thoughtful gift from a friend, they instantly make a room feel more welcoming.
One of my favourite home tips is this simple flower food recipe to help keep blooms looking fresh for a little longer.
Homemade Flower Food
Into your vase of lukewarm water, add:
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- ½ teaspoon lemon juice
Give the water a gentle stir before arranging your flowers.

The sugar provides a little nourishment for the flowers, while the vinegar and lemon juice help keep the water fresh. For the best results, trim the stems on an angle before placing them in the vase, remove any leaves that would sit below the waterline, and refresh the water every couple of days.
Sometimes it’s the simplest rituals that make everyday life feel just a little more beautiful. A vase of fresh flowers on the kitchen bench or bedside table is a gentle reminder to slow down, appreciate the season, and find beauty in the everyday.
